Heartbeats and Harmony: NEST Community Care Outreach for Elderly Well-being – Geriatric Health Outreach
Introduction
On June 22, 2025, students from the NEST Leadership Program at Believers Church Medical College Hospital (BCMCH) conducted “Heartbeats and Harmony”, a community care outreach initiative at Bethal Ashramam, Bethelpady. —
Geriatric Health Outreach
This program addressed a critical gap in geriatric healthcare and emotional well-being, combining clinical screening with meaningful human interaction.
Background and Concept
With increasing nuclear family structures, many elderly individuals face:

- Limited access to routine healthcare
Heartbeats and Harmony was designed as a student-led intervention to tackle both:
- Medical needs (screening and referral)
- Emotional needs (connection and companionship)
Objectives of the Outreach
The initiative was built around clear, outcome-driven goals:
- Conduct routine health screenings for elderly residents
- Identify conditions like hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and sensory impairments
- Promote emotional well-being through interaction
- Provide experiential learning in geriatric care for medical students –
- Enable referral and follow-up care pathways
