🌸 Empowering Change Through “आओ सखी बातें करें”
This is an impactful initiative aimed at educating adolescent girls and women about menstrual health, the dangers of unprotected sexual intercourse, and the signs of ectopic pregnancy. Through a series of well-structured and engaging activities, our mission was to provide authentic reproductive health knowledge, build confidence, and break the silence surrounding women’s health issues.
📌 Project Planning & Execution
Our journey began with brainstorming and securing necessary permissions from college authorities and the Department of Community Medicine. Under the guidance of our mentor, a dedicated team was formed to structure a three-phase awareness campaign that would effectively reach schools, hostels, and the local community.
- Step 1: Idea development and content research
- Step 2: Poster creation, skit preparation, and awareness session planning
- Step 3: Execution in schools, university hostels, and outreach sites
🎯 Three Key Phases of “आओ सखी बातें करें”
- Poster Making & Presentation: Students showcased creativity and knowledge through impactful poster designs on menstrual health. The session concluded with an interactive discussion led by the Professor & Head of Community Medicine.
- Nukkad Natak & Health Counseling: A street play was organized at a nearby school and girls’ hostel. It captured the audience’s attention and was followed by a professional health talk and Q&A session covering menstrual hygiene and early pregnancy risks.
- Sanitary Napkin Distribution Drive: Napkins were collected from MBBS students and interns and distributed among schoolgirls and female university staff, ensuring access to essential hygiene products in under-resourced areas.
✨ Project Outcomes
- Reached over 100 adolescent girls with life-saving information
- Empowered students to talk openly about reproductive health
- Engaged college peers and staff in meaningful health advocacy
🗂️ Organization & Planning
The planning and execution of the “आओ सखी बातें करें” initiative involved a structured, multi-stage approach that combined thoughtful ideation, team synergy, and responsible leadership. The first step was conceptualizing the vision of the project—to raise awareness around menstrual health, reproductive hygiene, and the psychological impact of unprotected sexual activities and ectopic pregnancy. With a strong focus on outreach and education, our aim was to design a project that could create both short-term awareness and long-term behavioral change.
After defining our objectives, formal permissions were obtained from the department heads and faculty mentors to ensure ethical and administrative alignment. A core organizing team was assembled based on prior volunteering experience, communication skills, and commitment to adolescent health awareness. A hierarchical structure was developed with a team leader and sub-heads for logistics, media, documentation, and community interaction.
A detailed action plan was then created. It included timelines, resource allocation, communication templates, and activity briefs. The team conducted brainstorming sessions to design innovative content formats such as role plays, myth-busting games, quizzes, poster presentations, and feedback loops—all tied back to the main goals.
Materials such as educational posters, sanitary napkin packs, and health awareness charts were procured. We also coordinated with local schools and community hostels for the implementation schedule. Every phase of the project was guided by teamwork, empathy, and a deep commitment to community impact—values at the core of “आओ सखी बातें करें.”

“आओ सखी बातें करें” is more than a campaign — it’s a movement toward dignity, education, and empowerment. By promoting open discussions on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, we helped reduce stigma and fostered informed decision-making among young women. The project has left a lasting impact on the community, inspiring us to continue working for accessible, stigma-free health education.
📌 Conclusion
The project “आओ सखी बातें करें” was a powerful example of how collaborative, student-led initiatives can lead to meaningful changes in community health awareness. The efforts made through street plays, counseling sessions, poster presentations, and sanitary napkin drives left a lasting impact on the lives of adolescent girls, school staff, and support workers. It created a space for open conversations, challenged deeply rooted taboos, and allowed young participants to voice their doubts without fear or shame.
What stood out was the level of engagement and curiosity shown by the schoolgirls. Their questions, interest in understanding reproductive health, and enthusiastic participation reassured us that such dialogues are essential and timely. Teachers and hostel staff also expressed their appreciation, acknowledging that these issues are often left unaddressed due to cultural sensitivities. By bringing the discussion into the open, “आओ सखी बातें करें” took a bold step in bridging that communication gap.
On a personal level, every team member involved grew in confidence, empathy, and awareness of ground realities. The project taught us how to work within constraints, adapt to audience needs, and most importantly, listen. It was not just about spreading awareness—it was about building trust.
As we conclude, we believe “आओ सखी बातें करें” is more than a campaign—it is a model of how medical students can serve as health advocates in society. We hope it encourages others to step forward and contribute towards empowering underserved communities through compassion, education, and persistent effort.
