Project Introduction
The STRESS-FREE initiative is a wellness-focused outreach program under NEST leadership platform. Aimed at addressing the growing concern of stress and burnout among medical students, this project promotes mindfulness, emotional resilience, and peer support. Through a series of curated activities and wellness interventions, the initiative seeks to create a healthier, more balanced learning environment that supports both academic performance and mental well-being.
Project: STRESS-FREE – A Mental Health Initiative for Medical Students
Being a medical student today is anything but stress free. Between tight academic deadlines, intense clinical postings, and unspoken expectations, stress builds silently — affecting both academic performance and mental well-being. Despite the clear toll on health, conversations about mental health in medical students often remain hushed or brushed aside.
Recognizing this urgent need, Project: STRESS-FREE was launched as a student-driven wellness campaign under the NEST umbrella. This initiative, crafted by students for students, aimed to create a stress free environment within our medical college — promoting awareness, breaking stigma, and building emotional resilience.
🌟 Objectives of the STRESS-FREE Project
- To help students recognize early signs of stress, burnout, and anxiety
- To offer practical, accessible solutions for managing stress and mental fatigue
- To normalize mental health conversations and promote student wellness
- To build a strong peer network that fosters support and empathy
🧩 Key Activities of the Initiative
🧘♀️ 1. Yoga and Mindfulness Workshop
In a calming session held on campus, students engaged in yoga, guided breathing, and mindfulness meditation. These practices became stepping stones to building a stress free mind and promoting balance in daily life.
🎭 2. Nukkad Natak – Street Play on Mental Health
A powerful open-air street play creatively portrayed the struggles of mental health in medical students. The emotive, relatable script helped shatter misconceptions while inviting open discussions.
🧠 3. Expert Session by Psychiatrist
An enlightening session by Dr. Puja Dulloo, a faculty psychiatrist, explored the neurobiology of stress and shared evidence-backed strategies for managing stress effectively within academic routines.

🎯 Achievements & Measurable Impact
- Student Engagement: Participants reported feeling acknowledged, emotionally safe, and more aware of stress free coping mechanisms.
- Wider Awareness: The creative format of the nukkad natak made the concept of student wellness more relatable and accessible.
- Stigma Reduction: By initiating conversations publicly, we reduced hesitancy in discussing mental health in medical students.
- Practical Knowledge: Attendees took home actionable tools — journaling prompts, breathwork techniques, and daily affirmations.
🛠️ Challenges We Faced
- Convincing students to attend mental health events during their packed schedules
- Breaking the psychological barrier that prevents help-seeking behavior
- Ensuring consistency and interest in long-term support models
But despite these challenges, our student-led team leveraged empathy, storytelling, and community collaboration to create meaningful impact and promote a stress free student environment.
💬 Participant Testimonials
“It was the first time I felt seen. The breathing exercises really helped. I now have a journal where I reflect after classes.”
“The street play was so real — we don’t talk about our struggles enough. It made me reach out to a friend.”
🧠 Key Insights Gained During the Sessions
- The sessions revealed a major gap in menstrual hygiene awareness, especially among adolescent girls in underserved communities. Creating a stress free space helped them open up and engage honestly.
- Misconceptions about reproductive and sexual health were addressed through interactive, stress free conversations that encouraged openness without judgment.
- Real-life examples and case scenarios, particularly around ectopic pregnancy, sparked curiosity and led to active participation in this stress free learning environment.
- Participants deeply appreciated the dual emphasis on emotional well-being and physical health — both essential components of a stress free adolescence.
🌍 Creating a Ripple Effect of Awareness
By promoting a stress free mindset among adolescent girls through accurate knowledge and open dialogue, the project didn’t just educate individuals—it created a movement. A stress free learning environment helped participants absorb critical topics around menstrual health and emotional well-being. Girls were empowered to carry these stress free habits into their homes, creating ripple effects that sparked positive, stigma-free conversations within families and communities. This chain of health education, rooted in stress free awareness, is paving the way for lasting impact.
🌿 Stress-Free Begins Here
A gentle reminder: mental health matters.
Through movement, expression, and mindful reflection — we take the first step toward a stress free tomorrow.
🎓 Learning Outcomes
The “आओ सखी बातें करें” initiative offered an enriching and stress free platform for medical students to explore hands-on learning outside the classroom. Through real-time community engagement, students practiced leadership in a stress free and supportive environment while addressing sensitive issues such as menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and ectopic pregnancy.
The initiative emphasized practical communication skills, empowering students to simplify complex health topics into relatable and empathetic messages. This created a stress free dialogue between facilitators and participants, fostering open conversation, curiosity, and mutual respect.
By leading sessions, managing logistics, and answering live queries, the student team gained valuable experience in community health leadership. Most importantly, they learned how a stress free atmosphere can enhance learning, especially when trust and safety are prioritized. The outcomes included better public speaking skills, emotional intelligence, and a stronger sense of responsibility as future health professionals.
🚀 Long-Term Vision: Building a Sustained Stress-Free Culture
Looking ahead, Project: STRESS-FREE is entering Phase 2. Our vision is to establish an ongoing ecosystem of student wellness in our medical college through:
- Monthly wellness workshops & mindfulness camps
- Peer-led reflection circles and mental health clubs
- Collaboration with psychiatrists for screening and support
- Introducing stress tracking tools for daily use
This future-ready model ensures that managing stress becomes a daily habit — not a reactive response. Our goal is to transform medical education into a more compassionate and stress free journey for everyone involved.
🧭 Conclusion: Building a Culture of Stress-Free Healing
Project: STRESS-FREE was not just an event — it was a movement. At its core, it reminded every medical student that mental wellness is not a luxury, but a necessity. By choosing to talk, reflect, and act, we planted the seeds of a more compassionate and stress free academic culture.
The initiative proved that small interventions — like practicing mindfulness, engaging in open dialogue, or witnessing a heartfelt street play — can leave a lasting impact. Our attendees didn’t just leave with handouts or ideas, but with renewed clarity, coping tools, and a sense of shared understanding. This is the beginning of a larger shift toward recognizing the importance of emotional well-being in demanding environments.
As we move forward, the challenge is to sustain momentum. The vision for a truly stress free student life requires long-term planning, consistent effort, and collective responsibility. Future editions will bring more depth — peer circles, regular workshops, and embedded support systems that ensure no student feels alone in their journey.
Most importantly, this project stands as a testament that change doesn’t always need to be big to be meaningful. Sometimes, all it takes is a breath, a voice, and the courage to begin.
