Giving = Living | Blood Donation Camp | NIMS Project 2
๐ฉธThe blood donation camp ”GIVING =LIVING” is to ensure a safe and adequate supply of blood for patients in need while also educating the public about the importance of blood donation๐ฉธ (Giving-Living)
.
ย ๐Aim:
The goal of the blood donation camp is to ensure a safe and adequate supply of blood for patients in need while also educating the public about the importance of blood donation. This initiative stems from the observation that our blood bank often faces a shortage of blood products, and donors are sometimes not found in time for critically ill patients. I believe this is an area that needs improvement, and I aim to contribute toward addressingย thisย challenge.
๐ Objective:
1. Raising awareness about the importance of blood donation.
2. Encouraging blood donations.
3. Generating new blood donors.
4. Educating the public about blood donation procedures and benefits.
5. Supporting national blood donation
programs..
ย What happened in this camp ?
๐Firstly, I with teammates raised awareness about the importance of blood donation in our medical College.
Activities like poster making were held on 26-11-24 for raising awareness regarding blood donation
๐Secondly, we distributed pamphlets of blood donation camp and asked the willing donors to register themselves.
๐Thirdly, the final list of blood donors was made and then we called them individually and gave them the time slot in which they canย donateย blood.
.
These steps were followed in this camp:-
๐1st step :Health history questionnaire
๐2nd step: Health screening
๐3rd step: Blood examination(Hb estimation and blood group identification)
๐4th step: Blood draw
๐5th step: Refreshment and appreciation certificate distribution along withย thankย youย cards
Benefits of blood donation:-ย
For the Donor:
1. Free Health Screening:
Donors receive a mini-physical before each donation, including checks on blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and hemoglobin levels.
2. Reduced Iron Levels:
Blood donation can help lower excessive iron levels in the body.
3. Improved Cardiovascular Health:
Regular blood donation may reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by managing iron levels.
4. Potential Reduced Cancer Risk
5. Sense of Well-being: Improved mood after donating, contribute to better mental health.
6. Replenishment of Blood Supply: Blood donation improves circulation by creating new blood cells.
.
7. Potential for Detecting Underlying Issues
For the Recipient:
Saving Lives
Outcome:-
๐ฉธTotal of 42 units of whole blood was donated by donors in this camp
๐ฉธWe got 60 donors among which 42 donors were eligible under the criteria of blood donation and they donated blood.
(18 donors weren’t able to donate because of some medical issues like they have undergone some surgical procedure within 6 months, few of them had low hemoglobin value i.e. below 12.5mm hg and 2 donors had dengue a fewย ย monthsย ago)
.
Leadership skills that I learned from this blood donation camp are:-
๐Community building: Fostering a sense of community and philanthropy
๐Event planning:
Securing a venue:- IHBT -Department ,NIMS HOSPITAL
-Coordinating with the nims hospital blood bank
-launching an awareness campaign with my team mates
๐Volunteer training: Training volunteers for the event
Communication: Sharing the importance ๐of blood donation and safety with others.
Customer service: Representing the organization to donors and ensuring they have a positive experience.
๐Encouragement: Encouraging donors to make long-term commitments and assuring them it is safe to donate blood.
๐Professionalism: I along with a team member went to all the batches of nims medical College to inform them and motivate them about theย bloodย donation
