VIMUKTHI – knowledge against addiction is a quiz competition on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.

INTRODUCTION
Substance abuse, particularly involving alcohol and drugs, remains a critical public health challenge affecting individuals, families, and communities at large. Recognising the urgency of addressing this issue, the student leaders of BCMCH, Thiruvalla,in collaboration with the Zeya Academic Club and the National Resource Centre for Non-communicable Diseases (NRC-NCD),are proud to organise VIMUKTHI – Pan Disciplinary quiz competition on alcoholism and drug abuse.
This initiative aims to stimulate informed dialogue, deepen understanding and empower future healthcare professionals to confront substance abuse with knowledge, compassion, and leadership.
A solemn pledge against alcohol and drug abuse, underscoring the moral and ethical responsibilities we beer as future medical practitioners, was also be taken during the event.
OBJECTIVES
More than a competition, this envisioned as a campaign for awareness, education, and transformation. The key objectives are:-
- To sensitise students to the detrimental impacts of alcohol and drug abuse on health, families, and society.
- To explore the clinical, psychological and social economic dimension of substance abuse disorders.
- To equip participants with evidence based knowledge for early identification, intervention, and prevention.
- To promote interdisciplinary collaboration and critical thinking through interactive learning.
- To cultivate a sense of social responsibility and ethical commitment among future medical professional professionals.
- To inspire a collective stand against substance abuse, reinforcing values of discipline, dignity, and wellness.

EXECUTION
- The quiz was conducted successfully in off-line mode with 6 teams of students from various semesters registered and participated enthusiastically.
- Questions, focusing on types of substance abused, pharmacology,complications, de-addiction therapies and public health measures were prepared in MCQ format with four options having one correct answer.
- Top performers were acknowledged with certificates and prize money.
- A brief briefing and educational discussion, followed the request to explain answers and clinical relevance.
CONCLUSION
The quiz served as an effective tool to enhance knowledge, encourage discussion and strengthen medical students preparedness in addressing alcohol and drug abuse, professionally and empathetically. It reaffirmed the importance of educational interventions in shaping competent and socially responsible future physicians.
