Reflection:

As we left the old age home, our hearts were heavy with a mix of gratitude and introspection. We realized that we often take the presence of our loved ones for granted, assuming they will always be there. However, the reality is that time is fleeting, and moments with them are a precious gift. This visit taught me to cherish the relationships I have and to make every effort to connect with the older generation, learning from their experiences while creating lasting memories.

The smiles and gratitude you receive from the residents of an old age home can make all the difference in your day.

Summary : Daan Utsav 2024: NEST & VSO Spread Joy at Cheshire Home and Old Age Home in Jamshedpur ()

As part of Daan Utsav 2024, a nationwide celebration of giving, student leaders from NEST in collaboration with VSO (Volunteer Students’ Organization) undertook heartwarming visits to Cheshire Home for the mentally challenged and a local Old Age Home in Jamshedpur. These visits, conducted from October 2nd to 8th, embodied the true spirit of inclusivity, compassion, and shared humanity.

Under Project MUDIT and Project AASHIRWAD, the volunteers engaged in interactive sessions filled with meaningful conversations and fun activities, ensuring the comfort and happiness of the elderly and differently-abled residents. The initiative highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence, adaptability, and relationship-building—key leadership qualities actively practiced by the student volunteers.

The visits were not only about service but also self-growth. Through their interactions, volunteers developed a deeper appreciation for the wisdom of the elderly and the innocence of the differently-abled, learning to value every moment spent with loved ones.

Led by students like Avijit, Monalisha Dutta, Sayantan Das, Aishwarya, and Kumar Tanuj, and guided by faculty mentors Dr. Vijay Kautilya D. and Dr. Khushboo Juneja, the effort stood as a successful testament to youth leadership in social outreach.

Daan Utsav is more than just a festival of giving—it’s a reminder that the smallest acts of kindness can leave lasting impressions on those often forgotten by society.
